Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting a Casino for the First Time
If you are planning on heading to Las Vegas or another destination with casinos, you might be excited about visiting a casino for the first time. However, you could also be completely unsure of what to expect. For someone who has never been inside of one before, a casino can be a bit intimidating. However, if you know these things beforehand, then you will know how to handle your first visit like a pro.
1. There’s a Lot More to Do Than Just Gamble
Obviously, when you think about going to a casino, the first thing that you probably think about is gambling. Of course, the average casino offers tons of opportunities for gambling; for example, you can sit down at a slot machine, or you can play a few hands of video poker. Many casinos also offer table games like roulette and poker. If you are there for the gambling, you should not be disappointed.
However, you should know that gambling is not the only thing that you can do in many casinos. Many have tons of other things to offer as well. Some have beautiful architecture and furnishings that you can enjoy looking at, and some even have roller coasters and other thrill rides. Most casinos have at least a few restaurants and bars, and some are home to concerts and other live music performances, comedy shows and more. A lot of them also have tons of shops, so if shopping is your thing, you should not be disappointed. Whether you are at the casino to gamble or not, you will probably want to spend at least a little while walking around so that you can see all that there is to see.
2. You Should Sign Up for a Player’s Card
Most casinos have a player’s card program of some sort that is free to join. When you join, you will be given a player’s card that you can insert into a slot machine when playing or that you can show when you play table games. This can help you earn points toward free stuff. You may even be given a gift when you sign up. Even if you aren’t planning on gambling, you should still sign up, since some casinos offer discounts on items in their shops and restaurants to those who have their player’s cards.
3. You Can Get “Free” Drinks
In most casinos, you can actually get drinks without having to pay for them. The catch is that you will only get this type of service while you are gambling, whether you are playing on the slot machines or video poker machines or if you are sitting down at the tables. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, since many casinos will offer mixed drinks, beers or glasses of wine to those who ask for them. If what you want isn’t available, your cocktail server should be able to give you a suggestion about something similar that is available.
4. They Do Have ATMs
If you think that you are going to have to stop off at the bank or an ATM before you arrive, you should know that this usually is not necessary. Most casinos have ATMs inside that you can use. The only thing that you should know, however, is that you will usually have to pay a convenience fee if you do choose to use one of these machines.
5. You Should Set a Limit for Gambling
It can be easy to get a little too into things when you are gambling in a casino. To help ensure that you don’t spend more than you can afford and get yourself into a financial bind when you get there, make sure that you set a limit for gambling beforehand. Then, you will know when to walk away.
As you can see, there are a few things that you will probably want to know before you visit a casino for the first time. If you remember these five things, however, you should feel at least a little more comfortable when you walk through the doors of a casino, regardless of which city you are in or what you are going there to do.
