Facebook may certainly give away personal data, just as long as you're a 'friend'..It's in our hand not to let this happen and keep our distances from the so called social networking

Facebook is a corporate social networking site. Im not sure why folks are so surprised when they move to compromise your security. If youre taking action that is above ground, why worry? Otherwise practice security culture. Dont let the conspiracy theorists get to you... be smart!

I have deleated all my friends and will not be using facebook in the way I did before. Having friends being able to see my friends list an unusable tool and I refuse to utuilise facebook because of this loss of privacy. I am curious as to weather others have this view.

Facebook (along with many other social networking sites) is a product of DARPA and its Echelon and Total Information Awareness Programmes. Please keep this in mind when accessing any of these electronic tools: nothing online is private and everything is backed up and saved by the NSA in the USA.

Quote "Under the new regime, .... those privacy options have been eliminated"

You can turn off these public visibility settings in your Privacy Settings > Search> Public Search Results > where you uncheck the "Allow Indexing" box.
When previously we could select how much personal information was available for public display, with the new Facebook regime, however, it is a matter of "all or nothing". Time for a new Social Network site I think.
