Hi all -- I have written up a critical response to the paper on mobiles in election monitoring. There are quite a few errors in the paper and the conclusion is rather questionable. Here is my response: http://mobileactive.org/mobile-activism-african-elections-paper-and-missed-opportunity.

I would also invite a discussion on when what method of election observation using mobile phones and SMS is appropriate and useful -- crowdsourcing versus systematic election monitoring. This is an opportunity to be much more clear on the various methods and their respective pros/cons, and appropriate uses.
